St Andrews 2026

The 16th EURAMAL conference on

Catastrophe and Beyond: Representations of Violence and Trauma in Modern Arabic Literature

will be hosted by University of St Andrews, School of Modern Languages, Department of Arabic & Persian (June 2026, St Andrews, Scotland, UK).

The conference will explore how Arab writers engage with the different forms of violence and trauma that have shaped Arab modernity and how their work can be seen as an attempt to depict catastrophe and imagine a future beyond it.

Special panel

A special panel will be dedicated to Arab authors resident in the UK.
